Effective DIY Indoor Fly Traps for a Pest Free Home

An affordable and practical answer to deal with flies is to make your own fly traps. Not only frustrating, they can also be dangerous because of the germs they carry. The good news is that you can make DIY indoor fly traps from everyday household items without using any toxic chemicals or spending a ton of money for commercially available products.

Why Make Your Own Fly Traps?

There are major disadvantages to using traditional ways to control insects. Flyswatters make a mess, while pesticides may leak dangerous chemicals into your home's air. As an alternative to chemical fly traps, these DIY indoor fly traps use common household items to effectively capture flies.

Four Effective DIY Indoor Fly Traps

By using everyday household items, you can craft traps that are not only eco-friendly but also highly efficient. The following four methods offer a variety of options to make homemade fly traps for indoors.

You can make this indoor fly trap easily. First, clean a plastic soda bottle that has been emptied. Then, slice the bottle just below the tapered neck. Take off the cap and invert the top half. Put it into the bottom half to make a funnel. The last step is putting a bait at the bottom part. If desired, make a handle by inserting wire through the punched holes.

For the bait, you can use a mixture of one cup of vinegar, a few dashes of fruit-scented dish soap, two tablespoons of sugar, and a little honey or syrup drizzled into the funnel. Fly drawn in by the sugary aroma, they squeeze into the funnel but can't get out, thus they end up floating to death in the liquid mixture.

First, get a bottle of wine that still has some liquid in it. Add two drops of maple syrup. Thirdly, add two drops of dish soap. Make a funnel out of paper and place it on top. Fill the funnel with syrup. A combination of the sugar in syrup and the fermentation in wine makes a delicious fly bait.

The next DIY indoor fly traps are vinegar and dish soap. First, you'll need a shallow bowl, apple cider vinegar, fruit-scented dish soap, plastic wrap, and rubber band.

Fill the bowl with vinegar and dish soap, then cover it with plastic wrap. Tie the plastic wrap with a rubber band, and make a few tiny holes in it. The tempting aroma draws the flies, who then squeeze into the holes and trapped inside the bowl.

First, put the rotting fruit in a little bowl or paper bag. Pour in the white vinegar. Add dish soap and stir the mixture. Cover with a small-holed zip lock bag. The rich aroma entices flies, who squeeze themselves into the spaces and get stuck.

The fly population in your home can be dramatically reduced with the help of these DIY indoor fly traps. By using simple household items and natural baits, you can effectively capture and eliminate unwanted flies without harmful chemicals.
